Preliminary investigators say a 2026 Porsche coupe was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when it struck the rear of a 2016 Ram pickup traveling in the same direction. The impact caused the pickup to leave the roadway and overturn.
The Porsche then crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a 2023 Mercedes SUV. Following the collision, the Porsche caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames.
Authorities identified Jon Burgess of Manteca as a passenger in the Porsche. CHP officials reported that he sustained major injuries and was transported to UC Davis Medical Center for advanced treatment. Officials also stated that both Burgess and the Porsche’s driver were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
